I've just spent the last few days correcting dead links from my main Taxonomic List web page. These were links to a server that deleated my jpg files. That server was IQuebec/IFrance. So you can bet I won't be posting there anymore because that involved about 170 files.

Thanks for the tip. This is a confusing but interesting one. My mistake in thinking that the stamp was only victim of a typographical error. It is clear that we see persistant sepals on the fruit and such a thing is never seen on a Cucurbiataceae (correct me if i'm wrong). So, I'd say you are correct in saying that it is a Solanum, especially since search results in Google under the key word "pepino-pepino" gave me first an indication that that common name is actually Solanum muricatum (cf. www.sfc.ucdavis.edu/library/details.asp?pub_ID=1186), a type of small eggplant. So my hopes of finding a Cucumis with the latin name on it, albeit misspelled, are dashed. I'll be replacing that stamp with another one illustrating a Cucumis, but with only a common name on it, until I find one with the latin name on it.

I think the confusion with the production of this stamp came with the fact that pepino-pepino litteraly translated means "sweet cucumber" (cf. id.), and that pepino also is a common name for Cucumis sativus (cf. Google search results). So, some people in poor contries (and elswhere occasionnaly, yes) who are in charge of stamp production do not use the proper expertise and just look it up in books or something. So, they knew that the name of this was pepino, they looked it up and made a first mistake in using the wrong latin name, and then made a second mistake in trascribing the genus name. Anyway, that's how I interpret it.

J'avais depuis toujour ce timbre mais aujourd'hui, après avoir vu http://www.senckenberg.uni-frankfurt.de/stamps/fpf/0st-pfl.htm, je me suis rendu compte que c'est possiblement un genre existant aujourd'hui et donc listé dans DTH. C'est effectivement le cas.

Dans "Nuphar", remplacé Nuphar_shimadai_China.jpg par Nuphar_luteum_Francaise.jpg parce que c'est un plus beau timbre puisqu'il est fait en gravure. Je me suis rendu compte que j'avais ce timbre en voyant la page http://site.voila.fr/francetimbres/CH16/T16d4fleur.html.
